Philippine Authorities Raid Illegal Crypto Hub Disguised as BPO Company

CAMP OLIVAS, Pampanga, Philippines – A covert operation led by Philippine authorities has dismantled an illegal cryptocurrency trafficking hub disguised as a business process outsourcing (BPO) firm in Angeles City. The raid, conducted last week, targeted Wonso BPO Services in Barangay Santa Teresita, exposing its illicit activities.

According to the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG), the raid was carried out by personnel from the CIDG, the Police Regional Office 3, and other partner agencies. They acted on a warrant issued by Regional Trial Court Branch 58. The warrant cited violations of Republic Act 9208, known as the Expanded Anti-Trafficking in Persons Act, in connection with Republic Act 10175, the Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012.

The operation resulted in the arrest of three individuals, including a Korean national identified only as Lim, along with two Filipino partners.

In their report, the CIDG confirmed the successful raid and arrests, which mark a significant step in combating cybercrime and human trafficking. Further details about the suspects and the extent of the illegal operations remain under investigation.

This raid underscores the growing challenges in addressing crypto-related crimes, particularly those operating under the guise of legitimate businesses. Authorities are continuing their efforts to crack down on similar operations in the region.
